Call for Abstracts

While services at this Assembly are provided in English and French, the Scientific Program component is presented in English only.

Authors are invited to submit an abstract in English to be considered for oral or poster presentation at IUCr 2014. The deadline for submission of abstracts is now May 2, 2014. Authors are asked to submit abstracts using the online abstract submission link found on this page.

Guidelines for Submission of Abstracts

Abstracts can be submitted via the online Abstract Submission Portal ONLY. There is no paper form to complete or mail. Faxed and mailed submissions will not be considered.

Submission Period: November 5, 2013 to February 11, 2014, extended to May 2, 2014.

Language of Submission: All abstracts must be submitted in English with accurate grammar and spelling suitable for publication.

Abstracts Submission Limit: Only one (1) abstract submission per submitter,   Abstracts have a maximum length of 2000 characters.

Note that you are allowed to present another abstract if this second paper is submitted under the following MS:

  • MS-68 - Spreading the Word. Introducing Crystallography to the Public (Crystallographic Education)
  • MS-84 - Crystallography Education and Training in the 21st Century: New Pedagogies, New Paradigms : Part I (Crystallographic Education)
  • MS-86 - IYCr (IYCr)
  • MS-92 - Crystallography Education and Training in the 21st Century: New Pedagogies, New Paradigms Part II (Crystallographic Education)
  • MS-95 - Symmetry and Its Generalisations in Science and Art (Physical and/or Fundamental)

Presenting Author: The same presenting author (oral or poster) cannot be assigned to more than one (1) abstract but can be included as co-author on more than one submission. Submission of an abstract constitutes a commitment by the submitter/presenter to present if accepted.

Co-Author(s): You will be given an opportunity to include co-authors on your submission and confirm that same are aware of being included in this submission.

Draft Status: If you do not click on the Proceed button (on Step 5 of the abstract submission service), your abstract will be saved in Draft Status. You will then be able to review it and submit it at a later time (but only before the deadline).
*Note: Abstracts that are in draft status after the deadline will not be considered for selection.

Changes and corrections: Once submitted, it is possible to make corrections to the abstract content or information (such as Presenter details, topic, etc.) until the deadline. In order to correct your abstract you must access your submission via the website using your username and password and edit your submission prior to the deadline.
*Note that changes to your abstract are not possible after the deadline. In the case of errors discovered after the deadline, you may indicate the correction during the presentation at the congress. However, changes will not be included in the publications.

Withdrawal: If you want to withdraw an abstract already submitted, please notify us as quickly as possible at IUCr14abstracts@legendconferences.com stating the title and submission ID number of the abstract to be withdrawn.
*Note that withdrawal is still possible after the submission deadline.

Accepted Abstracts: An email message will be sent to the Abstract Submitter by mid-April 2014 with a report on the status of the abstract (accepted or declined). The Congress Program Committee will determine the format, day and time of presentation.

The presenter will be required to register to the Congress by
May 1, 2014 to confirm their acceptance and be included in the Conference Program and Book of Abstracts. Accepted authors who do not register by the deadline will not be included in the Conference Program or Book of Abstracts and will be removed from the Accepted Abstracts Listing.

Publication of Abstracts and Acceptance notification: All accepted papers (Oral or Poster) will be published in an Accepted Abstracts Listing on the congress website in Mid April.

Student and Travel Support: To encourage graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to participate in this congress, the organizers have established a travel support program in which a limited amount of partial travel support will be made available to qualified candidates to attend the congress. Travel support offered will be up to a maximum of $1,000.00 CAD. Registration fees will not be waived.

Note to Authors

Accepted abstracts will be available online and distributed at the Congress.

Submission of an abstract constitutes the commitment of at least one author to register for the Assembly and present their work either orally or through a poster. Expenses associated with the preparation and submission of the abstract are the responsibility of the author/presenter.

The full speaker/presenter agreement can be viewed here, and must be accepted in order to complete the Abstract Submission process.

In order to be part of the IUCr 2014 Program, the author/presenter must register by May 1, 2014 and must submit payment at that time.
