The 23rd IUCr Congress promises to be an extraordinary event that will embody the energy and
momentum generated by both the 2011 and 2012 Nobel Prizes in Chemistry being awarded to
crystallographers, and the United Nations’ proclamation that 2014 will be the International Year of
Crystallography. With an anticipated attendance of 3000 international delegates working in the fields of
X-ray diffraction as applied to chemistry, biology, medicine, material sciences, mineralogy and others, we
expect representation from over 30 countries, coming from academia industry and government laboratories.
The focus of this meeting will be on recent advances in the various fields where crystallography is utilized,
emphasizing new understandings in biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. In addition to the Plenary Lectures
and Microsymposia, the tradition of holding various workshops and a Crystallography Software Fayre will continue. All participants will have an excellent opportunity to meet and discuss common issues, introduce new developments and explore opportunities for collaboration.
